Customer Success Stories

box build design

Power Management with Remote Monitoring

This customer needed a medium voltage monitoring system for surge protection devices. The design required monitoring, controlling, and logging the status of 32 starters simultaneously via remote access.

CO-AX provided a Windows-based graphical user interface (GUI) touchscreen using a Modbus driver for centralized control. The system alerts users to reset conditions and maintenance needs. The product went from design to manufacturing with FCT and zero defects.

What Are the Areas of Industrial Electronics?

Industrial electronics involves designing, developing, integrating, and maintaining electronic assemblies and devices, including PCBAs, used to control, automate, monitor, and optimize industrial processes.

Industrial electronics is critical to improving efficiency, safety, and productivity in industrial environments. It encompasses a wide range of applications, including but not limited to:

  • Control Systems – Industrial electronics is used to implement control systems that regulate and automate various industrial processes. These systems may involve Programmable Logic Controllers (PLCs), Distributed Control Systems (DCS), and other automation devices.
  • Sensors and Instrumentation – Industrial electronics enables sensors and instrumentation to measure and monitor physical parameters such as temperature, pressure, flow, level, and more. These measurements help in maintaining optimal process conditions and ensuring product quality.
  • Power Electronics – Power electronic devices and circuits are employed to efficiently convert, control, and distribute electrical power in industrial applications. This includes motor drives, power inverters, UPS systems, and more.
  • Industrial Communication and Networking – Industrial electronics facilitate communication between devices and systems used in industrial environments. Various protocols like Modbus, Profibus, EtherCAT, and Ethernet are used for data exchange and remote monitoring.
  • Robotics and Automation – Industrial electronics is fundamental to industrial robotics, where electronic components and control systems are used to automate manufacturing, assembly, and material handling tasks.
  • Human-Machine Interface (HMI) – Industrial electronics enables the development of user interfaces that allow operators and engineers to interact with and monitor industrial systems.
  • Embedded Systems – Embedded electronics play a vital role in various industrial applications, providing control and intelligence to specific devices and equipment.
  • Industrial Test and Measurement Equipment – Specialized test and measurement devices designed for industrial use are essential for troubleshooting, validating, and maintaining industrial systems.

What is OEM vs ODM vs EMS?

There are distinct differences between an OEM, an ODM, and an EMS.

  • OEM (Original Equipment Manufacturer) refers to companies that design products based on their own specifications and own the intellectual property (IP), though they often outsource component manufacturing to third parties. OEMs are increasingly adding smart technology to their operations and products.
  • ODM (Original Design Manufacturer) companies both design and manufacture products, retaining ownership of the design and IP, which they then license to other companies to rebrand and sell.
  • EMS (Electronics Manufacturing Services) providers are contract manufacturers that handle the production process, including assembly, testing, and supply chain management, working from customer-provided designs without owning the IP.

CO-AX is a contract manufacturer and EMS provider, offering comprehensive services including Design for Manufacturability, NPI prototyping, PCB assembly, and turnkey box builds/finished products. We leverage advanced manufacturing automation technologies to enhance productivity, control costs, and deliver the highest quality products.
